About Me

My name is George Wallace. I am a retired Army Chaplain with four combat tours and over thirty years of military service. I began practicing vipassana more than fifteen years ago as an essential component of my recovery from war. I have in recent years become more focused on Zen. I am a certified mindfulness teacher which involved two years of training with Jack Kornfield’s mindfulness teacher program (MMTCP).

My graduate training in theology / (a)theology focused on the medieval Christian mystics and the work of Matthew Fox. While on active duty as an Army chaplain I specialized in clinical chaplaincy with an emphasis on PTSD, suicidology and depression. My current passions are spending time with my kids, meditation, hiking in the Pacific Northwest and reading.

Connecting in a safe and supportive environment.

I want you to know that I am not just another professional with academic credentials. I have personal experience with trauma, post-traumatic stress, loss of faith, and depression. While I do not claim to share your unique individual experience, I have enough like experience to empathize.

Finding the Light in Darkness

Finding the Path

Becoming a Pathfinder

I set out on a healing journey almost fifteen years ago trying to find light in the darkness. In 2011, after two tours in Iraq, and seven suicides in my brigade within a year of returning, I entered an existential post traumatic stress crisis. From the depths of despair, I began to find a path back to life. I did some grief therapy but the primary medicine that supported my healing was meditation and contemplation. My religion deconstructed. What emerged was more organic and closer to the grit of my experience. I started learning to recover my heart, listen to my own inner wisdom, get connected to other people, to nature, to hope. As a chaplain working in Army medicine, I began to develop a path to healing through meditation and contemplative work with film, poetry, and asking simple reflective questions about life.

After retiring from the Army, thirty years of service and four combat tours, I want to continue to use what I have learned to support veterans.

Recently I have connected with The Heroic Hearts Project (HHP) which is a nonprofit organization with a mission to help veterans overcome PTSD by building community and providing safe and supervised access to psychedelic programs, professional coaching and community support.
